The private investigator interview technique you are about to learn is effective and, when you use it, it will seem almost magical.
By using this specific phrasing, you can prompt your subject to open up.
You will learn what they might share in court, and uncover leads that will impress your client with your insight!
Here’s the how it works:
When the person you’re interviewing says, “My lawyer told me not to talk about this to anyone,” respond with, “That makes a lot of sense. Let me ask you this. Do you have any questions for me about the case?”
Then shut-up.
In a moment or less, your subject will likely respond with, “Yeah. Why is it _______?”
Typically, these responses revolve around questions like:
Why is he claiming I took his computer when he said I could use it?
How come she’s saying I hit her mom when Nate saw that I never touched her?
Why does he say it’s his phone when I actually paid for it?
In my experience, the questions they ask usually take the form of “why” inquiries, rather than logistical concerns like court dates or where to park for depositions.
I never answer their questions directly. Instead, I feign surprise, saying something like, “They never told me about that!” or “That’s not what I was told!”
This subtly indicates to them that they need to persuade you of their version of events because “the other side” has attempted to sway your opinion. This technique is highly effective.
Master this simple technique, apply it judiciously, and position yourself among the top 10% of professional investigators!
