Take your interviews to the next level with witnesses, suspects or anybody when you learn the last two questions an experienced private investigator ask.
This week’s private investigator training video includes a real-world case study from a criminal defense case I worked on a he-said/she-said case and how the “Columbo Question” cracked it wide open for me and my client!
The Next-to-Last Question
What’s the best way to get in touch with you?
Criminal cases, auto accident investigations and just about every case a professional investigator tends to stretch out over a long period of time. That means you want a solid way to re-contact the person if you need to in the future. And – don’t miss this – how to contact them in a way they want to be contacted!
The Last Question
The last question I ask is one I really want an answered truthfully so I want them to have their guard down a little so I’m more likely to get a truthful answer.
I frequently like to ask this question after I’ve “ended” the “formal” interview. That way it seems almost like it’s just a small thing. Not important, so they are more likely to “slip-up” and tell me the truth.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t be a follower. Be a student! Study my ideas. Study other experts’ ideas and make a decision for yourself! Don’t just follow any one person’s advice blindly!
And as always, do the right thing even if it’s the hard thing.
