Everyday Carry Pocket Knifes for Private Investigators

People are going to lose their minds thinking I’m trying to tell them about everyday carry by falsely thinking I’m talking about firearms, but I am strictly speaking here about EDC pocket knives for private investigators who may find themselves at elevated risk for physical conflict.

Here’s my thinking… I like to carry a pretty small pocket knife because if I’m in a fight, I don’t want to have anything on me that could be mistaken for a weapon when the cops show up.

I have two small pocket knives I like and I show them in the video, but they are certainly small by any measure.

And I do carry them strictly for utility purposes. Not as weapons. And only one at a time.

One of them is a “single hand opener” which I like a lot and the other is slightly smaller an is more of a classic “pen knife”. Note: Not “disguised” as a pen but what we uses to simply call pen knives.

I do have other knives I carry for specific purposes like camping or fishing and (of course!) they are larger knives, but I don’t carry them everyday.

This whole topic is really a huge “common sense” thing, but I wanted you to know my thoughts in case they can inform your decision on your EDC pocket knife.

And always remember: Do the right thing even if its the hard thing.

Committed to your success and safety,
Larry Kaye, P.I.

P.P.S. – When you watch the video you’ll see the one hand opener I carry is very, very worn. I bought it new over twenty years ago and have carried it so much almost all the “rubberized” grip has worn off.

    • Yes! You are so right!

I didn’t notice this until it had been published for a few days, and I’m not sure what changing the title would do to the links leading to this article, so I’m going to leave it like this for now.

But you are absolutely right and thank you for the heads-up!
