Home Run vs 1 Percent

The Compound Effect is small, consistent actions, taken over time that yield remarkable results and I am a huge believer in that, but this week I want to share with you a time a trip to the courthouse as a Loss Prevention Officer lead me to a big leap forward.

A Private Investigator’s Public Records trick.

This is a super-quick private investigator public records trick for when you have to pull files for a case you’re working, like divorce records or criminal records, but you want to obfuscate (or hide) the true subject of your investigation.

Simply put, don’t just pull the file you want, pull a few random files as well!

That means even if the subject of your investigation learns his file was pulled, he’ll only know it was one of many and that may make him less paranoid then if just his record was pulled.

If you have a trip or tick like this, feel free to pass it on to me. Heck, I might even make a video about it!

Committed to your success,
Larry Kaye, P.I.

Client Call: “My daughter’s dating a loser.”

As a Private Investigator, you will eventually get a call from a father who want’s a background check done on his daughter’s dirtbag boyfriend hopping to show her that the “man of her dreams” is scum and maybe she’ll break-up with him.

It never works out that way.

So, here’s the thing… back when I was working for clients off the street I would take cases like this, but I would always explain tot he dad that his plan probably wouldn’t work.

I didn’t want to do an “expensive” background check only to have a dissatisfied client when his daughter stayed with the loser. Oh, and by the way, if the background check doesn’t solve his problem he will definitely think it’s too expensive no matter what it cost!

The key take-aways this week are:

1. You will get theses calls and

2. Set your clients expectations properly before taking the case.

Larry Kaye, P.I.

Don’t get triggered!

I learned a clever acronym from an experienced police Sargent to help keep cool when some bad guy is trying to push your button during an arrest, confrontation or any investigation.

The Phrase

Q-Tip

Quit Taking It Personal!

Whatever they person is saying about you (or your mother), remember: it ain’t really about you!

He doesn’t care about you. He doesn’t even know you!

You’re just the security guard, loss prevention officer or private investigator standing between him and his dope, stolen merchandise, scammed workers compensation check or other thing to feed his addition or lazy lifestyle.

It ain’t about you. He just wants his thing as easy as he can get it.

So when he’s mouthing off to you, Quit Taking It Personal!

Stay clam, be the pro that you are, do your job and go home to you life that is immeasurably better than his!

And, as always…

Do the right thing, even if it’s the hard thing.

Committed to your success,
Larry Kaye, P.I.
