If you’ve ever felt the pain of a crushing handshake, I have a self-defense solution for you in this week’s video!
I learned this self defense trick from a retired special forces guy who has since then passed away.
The key is to keep your index finger pointed straight while shaking hands. This keep your knuckles from being aligned so the other person can’t simply squeeze down on your hand and crushing those bones!
The person can still hold on to you and not let go. They can still pull you around or into a punch, but this techniques protects you from one of the more common tactics they can use to hurt you.
If you have another idea on how to solve this problem, please post a comment.
Stay Safe and Streetwise,
Larry Kaye, P.I.

How to fit in if you go undercover or even just pull a “simple” pretext.
How do you avoid putting your foot in your mouth and pulling a “pretext fail” by actually admitting you don’t know!
In this weeks video I explain how I have (and you can) use the fake brother-in-law to make your pretexts successful.
When you use this subtlety in your pretext, you’re claiming your no good, lazy, deadbeat brother-in-law is trying to convince you to front the money for one of his hair-brained ideas that requires information from the person you’re pretexting.
That means the person your pretexting must convince you to give up your money (invest) in the ideas. So what happens in the subject tells you everything trying to convince you to invest!
So it doesn’t matter how dumb… er… I mean uninformed you are about the topic, the guy you’re pretexting wants your money so he will answer all of your questions!
Of course he may not always be truthful, but you now have him on record lying!
I love using this when I have to pretext in a field I know little about.
However it’s important to remember that a pretext MUST be legal and it must cause no real harm to anyone.
Remember: Do the right thing even if it’s the hard thing.
I have a great section in my two DVD set The Investigator’s Ultimate Guide to Process Serving that covers all kinds of pretexting for serving process. Be sure to check it out right here!
What if you could track down everyone who owns a drone in the US? And I mean citizens and even foreign nationals!
Federal law requires aircraft registration including the registration of “drones” (AKA: Unmanned Aircraft Systems).
Private Investigators may be able to track down drone owners.
By statute all aircraft are required to be registered. Congress has defined “aircraft” to include UAS, regardless of whether they are operated by modelers and hobbyists.
Everyone, including foreign nationals and tourists, who operate a UAS for hobby or recreational purposes outdoors in the U.S. must register their aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration.
The drone owner needs to provide their name, address, email and other information. Pretty handy stuff if you’re skip tracing the owner of a drone!
Right now the database is not searchable online, however…
Other federal databases are and I believe this one will be too!
In fact the FAA admits, “In the future, the registration database will be searchable by registration number only, but not by name or address.”
In the mean time, you could try a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA) to see if the subject of your investigation is listed in this database!
The 1% Tip on Tracing Some License Plates
I’ve talked in other videos about the importance of what I call “1% Tips”. These are solutions or hacks that help you a small amount of the time (maybe only 1% of the time), but added with a bunch of other 1% Tips gives you a pretty good chance of finding a piece of information you need for a case you’re working on!
This tip is about how to run a trace on a small but distinct class of specialty license plates.
Many states offer an option for amateur radio operators to have specialty license plates with their call sign on it. Like in the (edited) photo below.
You can run a license plate trace on a tag like this!
To trace the license plate all you have to do is enter the call sign on the license plate into the Federal Communications Commission’s database of amateur radio operators found in this link to the FCC.
Many times you can tell from a great distance if a car or truck is owned by an amateur radio operator because of the big antenna on the vehicle.
In this photo you can see the base of the tall antenna mounted on the bumper.
On surveillance you can spot these vehicles from far away because of their large antennas.
HUGE TIP
And remember how the feds say you won’t be able to search the drone database by name? Well, check this out…
You can search the FCC database by state, zip code or even by name!
This is an excellent example of how to think like a private investigator!
By the way, if you want more tips like these, be sure to check out my special report If You Want to be A Private Investigator Give Up… Unless You Do Theses 3 Things.
If you’re chasing a bad guy, especially at night, and you lose track of him between houses or whatever, try this…
The trick is to listen for barking dogs in the neighborhood.
Barking dogs may indicate where the suspect ran.
But here’s the really inside tips:
If you don’t hear dogs barking, consider that your bad guy is either…
1) hiding out nearby or
2) maybe he’s doubled back to his car and is driving away!
